Virtual Reality Exhibit
Client:
NASA OSAC Office - Huntsville, AL
Project Details:
After the success of previous virtual reality experiences produced for NASA, the OSAC team at Marshall Space Flight Center approached us about producing a new VR experience. They wanted a piece that would focus on each section of the Space Launch System (SLS) and define their functionality.
We went to the OSAC team and proposed developing a new VR diorama experience that was literally a more “hands-on” application. The idea was to develop a new piece using the Unity platform which would be used on their existing Oculus Rift setup. All new SLS game ready models would be produced, along with the launch platform. The whole focus was to present the launch ready SLS as a miniaturized diorama where a user could pull individual parts from the rocket, explore them in a 360° view, and have interactive engagement.
Existing animations and videos were also edited to play within the experience. Minor details such as workers taking a break on the launch pad were also included as Easter eggs. An interactive instructional opening was also produced. An adjustable timer was created to control the amount of time a trade show attendee spent on the experience to ensure maximum audience usage.
This award winning piece was a valuable asset for the SLS messaging at trade shows and due to its success, an additional section was created that had the virtual room's floor open up and a full scale SLS model launched.
