NASA INSPIRE

Mobile Application

One big app.

Client:

NASA Headquarters - Washington D.C.

Project Details:

Part of our partnership with NASA Headquarters was to present new and exciting ideas throughout the year. We used this opportunity to present an application idea that worked off the word “inspire” and how it plays within the future of NASA's Space Launch System (SLS). I came up with the approach of dividing the app up into three sections that would help in providing inspiration to others, especially kids: Educate, Motivate and Participate.

This application was one of the biggest undertakings that Media Fusion took on for NASA Headquarters. Combining a variety of different kinds of media into one application, the story of the SLS journey from the planning stage to development can be easily seen and understood. The Inspire application was one of NASA's first large mobile applications built and also included 508 compliance guidelines for the hearing and visually impaired. We were able to produce a variety of custom content from high end animations, self produced videos, interactivity, and intuitive layouts. The application also included additional videos and animations outside of NASA that reinforced the theme of “inspire”.

The application was sectioned out in three areas: Educate, Motivate and Participate. Educate was focused on providing education materials which would include insight into the development and manufacturing of the SLS rocket. This also included a breakdown of all parts, their production locations and a timeline of critical events. We were able to research and develop content for each area and get additional information from subject matter experts at NASA. The Motivate section was a gallery of videos and animations produced for this project along with others that we requested to be used from their originators or creators. The Participate section was a collection of activity based pages where you could download coloring sheets, engage within NASA’s social media channels and read about a Space Camp challenge concerning previous astronauts.

"I was the Program Manager for the graphics and multimedia department at NASA Headquarters. Toby was offsite support for that contract. He worked on several projects for me and was always very personable and accommodating. His ability to manage complex projects with difficult constraints was unmatched. Toby's creative abilities always turned our muddled vision into a beautiful and clear product."
